Our Story

The Mill Wine Bar & Event Venue is excited about bringing life back to the Texas Mill & Elevator Company. We are a family-owned and operated business that values faith, celebration, unique experience and the opportunity to share that with others. We are excited to offer guests a wide variety of great wines, a rotating selection of craft beer, and unique food options from our very own Mill Feed Truck. Our Feed Truck serves sharable plates and desserts Tuesday through Saturday, with our weekly Steak Night on Thursday nights.

We do not accept reservations, but you can rent a private space (see our                                                 silo rentals or private events pages). 

We are family friendly, but children must remain with an adult at all times.

Our Team

Bridget McDowell and Mindy Howard are a mother/ daughter team working together to make The Mill a great addition to Abilene.  Bridget has worked in public finance for over 28 years and lives in Abilene with her husband, Gerry, whom was the general contractor of the refurbished flour Mill.

Mindy Howard graduated with a Biomedical Science degree from Texas A&M before moving back to the Big Country. She and her husband Blake remain active as owners and to bring great wine, unique event space, and new atmosphere to Abilene that the Mill continues to be the premier event venue and date night location in the Big Country!


Emily joined The Mill in March of 2018 after having relocated to Abilene with her husband. After working on the Wine Bar for six months, she accepted the role of Director of Events in September 2018. Emily received her Associates of Science in Business Administration in 2015 from Western Wyoming Community College. Emily’s passion for small business and community development is reflected in her experience, as she has worked for family owned and operated businesses for most of her life. Her love for community and bringing people together will ensure that The Mill continues to be a top choice for event venues in the Big Country.



Director of Events



General Manager

Heather Lindsay joined The Mill in December of 2017 as the Director of Events when she and her husband relocated to Abilene for his job at Dyess Air Force Base. In September of 2018 she accepted the role of General Manager. Heather has had the privilege to manage many prestigious restaurants in her years living in the Columbus and Cincinnati Tri- State areas of Ohio and most recently Rapid City South Dakota. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2012 from the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Ohio. Heather’s experience, love of wine and passion for planning an exceptional event will ensure that the Mill continues to be the premier location for a night out in the Big Country!
