Meet the Wine Maker of WATSON VINEYARDS
In 2003, while serving in Iraq, Stephen Watson, a native born Texan, had a dream of creating and walking through his own vineyard and making wine. When he returned from his second and final tour in Iraq, he moved to California to be with his wife of only a year. Over the next several years he studied at UC Davis, earning a viticulture certification and interned at the well-known winery J.Lohr and learned the art and science of winemaking while developing a passion for the business.
He believes he has discovered what quality winemaking takes and hopes to develop a product that is liked by many. In 2011, with his wife Mary’s assistance, they began the beginning of what they hope will be a life-long and prosperous endeavor. Stephen grew up in Coleman, a small town about 180 miles northwest of Austin. They currently have 1300 vines planted on roughly 1.5 acres, and plan to continue to add more in the coming years, hoping to grow some quality grapes for winemaking.
